This week, I’m in Egypt. It’s a sort of surreal thing to see world history up close, especially when you’re traveling solo and unfiltered through it all.

Cairo is an immense city filled with narrow streets, local bazaars, and heavy traffic. If you’ve never been outside of a Western country or have always visited polished locations, it can serve as a bit of a culture shock.

There’s a level of unbothered I’ve now evolved which involves eating rolled ice cream walking through a roundabout full of moving bumper to bumper traffic. The cool part is that traffic moves around you if you’re predictable and smooth.

It reminds me of when I started out in software and I had to learn new programming skills for the first time - it was new, novel, very scary at times, but when understood and mastered, it felt highly satisfying.

I’m currently on my way south to Luxor via sleeper train in beautiful 1930s Art Deco fashion (which is also a prominent building style in areas of Cairo). There, I will see the Valley of The Kings.

I’ve never pushed myself this much in adventure, and it’s beautiful.

Be well,
Michael Kirsanov
